Clinical Significance in Turner Syndrome: Short stature is caused by haploinsufficiency of the SHOX gene. Untreated mean adult height in Turner syndrome is approximately 143 cm (~20 cm below population mean). Recombinant human growth hormone (rhGH at 0.045–0.050 mg/kg/day) initiated early (around 4–6 years) significantly enhances adult height.
